    Introduction: Academic stress is a prevalent phenomenon in university students, especially in highly demanding careers such as nursing. Self-esteem can act as a protective factor against stress and promote academic performance. Objective: Relate the level of academic stress to self-esteem in nursing students. Methods: Quantitative, observational-cross-sectional and correlational study. Information was collected on a census basis from seventh-semester nursing students at the Technical University of Ambato, using the SISCO Inventory to evaluate academic stress and the Rosenberg SelfEsteem Scale to measure self-esteem. Data analysis was carried out with Microsoft Excel and SPSS version 29. Results: The majority of students (89.5%) presented a deep level of stress and 40.8% showed a high level of self-esteem. A significant correlation was found between academic stress and self-esteem (0.000 p< 0.05). Conclusion: The majority of participants presented a deep level of stress, and a considerable percentage presented high self-esteem. Furthermore, a significant correlation was found between academic stress and self-esteem, which allowed us to accept the researcher's alternative hypothesis, that is, academic stress has a significant correlation with self-esteem in nursing students at the Technical University of Ambato.
