IMPACTO DEL ASMA EN EL EMBARAZO: EVALUACIÓN DE COMPLICACIONES MATERNAS Y RESULTADOS NEONATALES
(2025-06-16) Agualongo Valencia Keiko Fernanda; Gavilanez Saenz Victor Patricio; Universidad Técnica de Ambato / Facultad de Ciencias de Salud / Carrera de Medicina
Asthma, which affects 10% of pregnant women, represents a challenge for maternal-fetal health due to complications such as premature delivery, preeclampsia, hypertension and low birth weight, in addition to respiratory problems in newborns. In Ecuador, up to 50% of cases in pregnant women are mild persistent, due to the lack of accurate diagnosis and adequate treatment increases the risk of morbidity and mortality. This study analyzes the impact of asthma on maternal complications and neonatal outcomes, with the aim of designing effective management and prevention strategies. A descriptive nonexperimental design was applied, reviewing recent literature on pregnant women with asthma, using databases such as PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science, and applying the PRISMA method to select studies from the last five years, the results were presented in narrative summaries, considering the limitations and ethical aspects of the studies reviewed. Asthma during pregnancy, exacerbated by hormonal and physiological changes, increases risks such as preterm delivery, low birth weight and neonatal respiratory problems, affecting fetal respiratory development and predisposing to childhood asthma and infections, requiring continuous monitoring, medication adjustments, maternal education, identification of triggers and multidisciplinary collaboration, as well as postpartum strategies to adjust therapy as needed. It is critical to manage asthma in pregnancy, including exacerbation prevention and medication adjustments, continuous monitoring and collaboration between professionals are key to optimize maternal-fetal outcomes and minimize risks to the baby. Asthma during pregnancy can cause maternal complications such as those mentioned, asthma attacks increase the risk of preterm delivery and postnatal complications, to mitigate these risks, it is essential to prioritize asthma control, prevent exacerbations, educate the mother and perform an adequate postnatal follow-up.
