| dc.description | This research was conducted to analyze how forensic auditing contributed to the detection of financial fraud in the Ecuadorian public sector. The study aimed to identify fraud mechanisms, review the forensic techniques applied, and evaluate their influence on clarifying responsibilities. A qualitative methodology was employed, based on the documentary analysis of reports, tax files, and court rulings corresponding to four relevant cases registered between 2018 and 2023. The results showed that forensic auditing allowed for the reconstruction of irregular transactions, the establishment of economic damages, and the tracing of financial transactions, which facilitated the identification of those responsible and strengthened legal proceedings. Furthermore, it was observed that cases incorporating forensic techniques presented more precise and complete findings, while those without specialized expert analysis showed limitations. The study concluded that forensic auditing played a fundamental role in improving transparency and supporting the fight against fraud, although its application was still limited by the lack of a specific regulatory framework and its unsystematic use across all public entities | |
