| dc.description | The general objective of the study was to analyze the relationship between microcredit and entrepreneurship in Ecuador at the sectoral and gender level. For this purpose, records from the Superintendencia de Bancos and the SRI were used, covering the period 2018-2024. Under a quantitative approach, therefore, descriptive statistics that characterized the distribution of credits were applied. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk tests confirmed the absence of normality, so the Mann-Whitney U was used to verify the differences in the amounts between men and women, while Spearman's Rho coefficient measured the association between microcredit and entrepreneurship. The results revealed that the service sector concentrated the largest proportion of financing, followed by commerce and manufacturing. The U-test showed significant differences by gender, with women attracting the highest total volume of microcredit, but men obtained higher loan amounts in all three sectors. Likewise, very strong and significant correlations were identified in knowledge- intensive services and in manufacturing with low technical barriers, although in commerce there were medium and statistically non-significant relationships. It was concluded that gender inequalities persist in the allocation of resources and that microcredit only favored the growth of enterprises and businesses established in those environments with the capacity for productive scaling, emphasizing the need for more focused sectoral and gender policies. | |
