Abstract

Description

The main objective of this research is to analyze the influence of tertiary education on female entrepreneurship in the province of Cotopaxi. To this end, data from the Internal Revenue Service (SRI) and SENESCYT were used to calculate the Early Entrepreneurship Rate and obtain the annual number of tertiary graduates by gender, while the methodology had a descriptive-correlational scope based on the hypothetical-deductive method, which allowed for the examination of the gentrepreneurial dynamics of the service sector broken down into subsectors. The results show that there are significant gender differences in two of the subsectors analyzed, reflecting a higher concentration of women in activities of lower productive complexity. However, overall, the service sector showed equitable entrepreneurial behavior between men and women, which shows progress in reducing gaps. In addition, this study found that higher education does influence female entrepreneurial activity, although it did not always increase the probability of entrepreneurship, especially in contexts where necessity prevails. This study contributes to understanding the relationship between tertiary education and entrepreneurship from a territorial and gender perspective.
