Abstract

Description

The objective of this research work was to analyze the contribution of the Cash Flow Statement (CFS), in accordance with the IFRS for SMEs, to financial decision-making in companies within the footwear sector of the Cantón Cevallos. For this reason, using an intentional non-probability sampling method, 17 managers from small and mediumsized enterprises in the sector participated in the study. A survey was applied to this sample to determine the preparation of the CFS and its contribution to decisionmaking. The survey results determined that out of the 17 companies, only 4 prepare the CFS in their operations. The rest of the companies mentioned that they do not prepare it because they do not have the obligation to present this statement to regulatory bodies. However, they are aware of the importance of this statement and, generally, consider it a document of high importance for financial planning and decision-making. For the companies that do prepare the CFS, a documentary analysis of the statements and a determination of financial performance indicators were conducted. The results showed that all companies prepare the CFS using the direct method and comply with the provisions of the IFRS. Financial performance, however, was indistinct across the companies. Nevertheless, it was identified that the company with the greatest knowledge of the CFS and which used this operation for planning and decision-making was the company with the best financial performance. In this way, it is concluded that the CFS, according to IFRS, contributes significantly to financial decision-making. Furthermore, the use of the CFS according to IFRS should not be considered as a mandatory reporting operation but rather as a tool for financial decision-making.
