Abstract

Description

This study analyzed the influence of intellectual capital on the financial performance of companies in the Ecuadorian livestock sector during the 2020–2024 period. The objective was to determine how the productivity of human capital, structural capital, and capital employed was related to business profitability. The research followed a quantitative approach, with descriptive, correlational, and explanatory scope; secondary information from the Superintendence of Companies, Securities, and Insurance of Ecuador was used, corresponding to companies classified under ISIC code A0141. Intellectual capital was measured using the Value Added Intellectual Coefficient (VAIC) model, while financial performance was assessed through ROA and ROE indicators. The data processing included descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and panel data econometric models corrected using PCSE and pooled Driscoll-Kraay methods. The results showed that the aggregate VAIC did not exert a statistically significant influence on either ROA or ROE. However, when its components were disaggregated, structural capital efficiency showed a positive and significant effect on ROA, while capital employed efficiency presented a negative and significant effect. Regarding ROE, no statistically significant effects were detected. It is concluded that the influence of intellectual capital on the financial results of the Ecuadorian livestock sector was partial, weak, and concentrated on return on assets; therefore, it cannot be considered a general and uniform determinant of financial performance during the period analyzed.
