Utilidad de la citología urinaria en el diagnóstico de cáncer de vejiga

Abstract

Urinary cytology has been considered the technique of choice to determine the usefulness, sensitivity, and specificity of cytology in the diagnosis of bladder cancer. Method: A descriptive, documentary and non-experimental study was carried out through a process of search, recovery, analysis and interpretation of bibliographic material obtained and registered by other researchers or documentary sources. Results: After having applied our search criteria, we have recovered 50 scientific articles that, after being studied and analyzed, the previously established inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied where it was possible to select 11 articles. Conclusions: Urinary cytology is a gold method, being the technique of choice for the diagnosis of bladder cancer. Patients with clearly positive urine cytological samples that are not confirmed should continue to be studied because there is a probability of finding a bladder or upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma.
