Item type:Ítem, Estrategias de diseño sustentables mediante el uso de residuos de denim para el sector del calzado artesanal en Tungurahua(UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO; FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA; CARRERA DE INGENIERÍA EN DISEÑO INDUSTRIAL, 2026-01-21) ;Medina Valencia Joselyn de los Angeles ;Jessica Viviana Martínez VergaraUNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO; FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA; CARRERA DE INGENIERÍA EN DISEÑO INDUSTRIALThis research focuses on the analysis and use of denim waste generated in textile workshops, with the aim of evaluating its technical and productive feasibility for the manufacture of handmade footwear in Tungurahua. Handcrafted footwear is a strategic productive sector that mainly uses leather and synthetic materials, so the incorporation of denim scraps represents a sustainable alternative that provides environmental, economic, and cultural value. The work is justified by the problem identified in textile workshops, where between 15 and 50 kilograms of denim scraps are generated each month, most of which are discarded, incinerated, or stored without sorting. This waste has a weight of between 11 and 14 ounces and technical characteristics suitable for reuse, so its use can reduce environmental impact and strengthen the circular economy in the region. The methodology applied included semi-structured interviews with textile workshops, shoemakers, and experts in the field, as well as technical observation sheets. The results showed that the material is available, artisans are willing to use it, and denim is compatible with artisanal processes such as patchwork, module creation, vivid textures, braiding, and mixing with other materials. Likewise, a growing market interest in sustainable products was identified. Finally, the proposal developed proposes sustainable design strategies to integrate denim waste into footwear components, reinforcing the artisanal identity and promoting production models aligned with sustainability and the circular economyItem type:Ítem, Diseño de una colección de indumentaria canina mediante una propuesta de suprareciclaje en la Empresa LuiveR(UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO; FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA; CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIA, 2026-01-20) ;Sailema Palate Melissa Dayana ;Sánchez Sailema Erika CatalinaUNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO; FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA; CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIAThe LuiveR company provides a service for the manufacture of sportswear and workwear, specializing in the production of functional and highly resistant clothing. However, during the cutting and sewing process, textile remnants are generated that are still of Good quality but for which there is no reuse system. In response to this problem, this project emerges as a sustainable alternative that seeks to transform these remnants into new design opportunities. The research is justified by the need to implement circular economy practices within the Ecuadorian textile industry and by the growth of the pet fashion market, especially for small breeds, which demand functional, comfortable, and aesthetic garments for the user. To this end, a methodology was used based on interviews with the owner, To this end, a methodology was used based on interviews with the owner, analysis of the remnants generated through classification and curation files, as well as the application of Fletcher's transformation method, which allowed for the exploration of new combinations and uses of the leftover material. The results show that LuiveR remnants retain the properties necessary to develop formal canine clothing such as suits, dresses, and vests, maintaining standards of ergonomics, mobility, and comfort for the pet. The collection demonstrates that upcycling can be efficiently integrated into the production process, generating unique products with added value. In conclusion, this proposal represents a valuable opportunity for LuiveR to diversify its offering and incorporate sustainability and upcycling into its business model, positioning itself within this growing market for small breed dog clothing.Item type:Ítem, Diseño de una colección en denim con aplicación de intervenciones textiles y residuos preconsumo para la EMPRESA CARITEX(UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO; FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA; CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIA, 2026-01-20) ;Villalba Quinto Daniela Lizbeth ;Sánchez Sailema Erika CatalinaUNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO; FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA; CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIACaritex, located in the Pelileo district, is a local reference in the production of denim garments. However, its manufacturing process generates a considerable amount of pre consumer textile waste, including fabric scraps, cut offs, and production defects. Due to the absence of an adequate management system, these materials are discarded in the waste site of the El Rosario parish, generating environmental impacts and representing the loss of resources with high creative potential. Additionally, there is limited knowledge of innovative textile intervention techniques that could be applied to develop aesthetically appealing and commercially competitive products. This research project aims to design an experimental denim collection that integrates contemporary textile interventions and the reuse of pre consumer waste, based on the transformation methodology proposed by Kate Fletcher. To achieve this, a diagnostic study of Caritexs production system was carried out through interviews, direct observation, and focus groups with young consumers, identifying needs, preferences, and opportunities for sustainable innovation. Subsequently, an experimental phase was conducted through textile intervention samples, which made it possible to evaluate the technical and aesthetic feasibility of techniques such as patchwork, embroidery, appliques, and laser engraving applied to denim scraps. The results demonstrated strong potential for their use in future prototypes. Finally, the findings were integrated into a design proposal that outlines guidelines for a sustainable, creative, and context based denim collection. This proposal strengthens the competitiveness and innovation of Caritex within the denim market and contributes to the recognition of Pelileos local textile identity.Item type:Ítem, Uso del polvillo residual de cuero para la obtención de un material compuesto(UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA CARRERA DE DISEÑO INDUSTRIAL, 2025-07-28) ;Alvarez Panta Angie Estefania ;Paucar Samaniego Mayra AlejandraUNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA CARRERA DE DISEÑO INDUSTRIALCurtiduría Tungurahua, a well-established leather processing company known for its quality and experience in the industry, has committed to mitigating the environmental impact associated with its operations. In response, this research was carried out in collaboration with the company, aiming to develop composite material by reusing the fine residual dust generated during the leather sanding process. The study followed a comprehensive methodology that included bibliographic research, fieldwork, and experimental testing. These approaches provided valuable insights into the potential reuse of the residue and its applications. The experimental phase focused on formulating a composite material by combining the residual leather dust with epoxy resin as the matrix. Samples were subjected to tensile and hardness tests in the laboratory to determine the mechanical properties of each formulation. Among the tested mixtures, the 40:60 ratio (epoxy resin to leather dust) demonstrated the best mechanical performance. This formulation achieved an elastic modulus of 1.37 MPa, tensile strength of 2.12 MPa, elongation of 5.37%, and a relative hardness of 0.838, showing potential when compared to certain commercial polymers. Given its performance, the proposed application is in decorative interior design products, where the material can serve as the core of decorative modules, with the residue encapsulated to prevent environmental and human exposure. This solution not only adds value to an industrial by-product but also contributes to waste reduction and environmental sustainability in the leather industry.
