This situation highlights the need to implement sustainable strategies within the textile industry that reduce the environmental impact caused by pre-consumer waste while simultaneously generating new opportunities for innovation and added value. In this context, the study aimed to design a collection of multifunctional bags made from denim textile scraps through upcycling processes, designed to meet the functional, aesthetic, and contemporary needs of the company’s direct consumers. The research was conducted using a qualitative and experimental approach, through a literature review of references related to sustainable design, textile reuse, denim, and upcycling. Thus, techniques of observation, material experimentation, and analysis of the physical and functional properties of denim textile remnants were applied to determine their viability in the construction of multifunctional accessories. During the design process, criteria related to functionality, ergonomics, aesthetics, and innovation were integrated, enabling the development of adaptable and transformable designs that align with current market trends. The results showed that denim textile scraps possess characteristics suitable for reuse in the production of multifunctional bags, enabling the creation of functional, durable, and visually appealing products. Similarly, it was determined that the application of upcycling helps reduce textile waste and contributes to strengthening practices related to the circular economy within the company. Finally, it was concluded that sustainable design applied to the development of accessories constitutes a viable alternative for integrating innovation, functionality, and environmental responsibility within the Ecuadorian textile industry, while simultaneously strengthening Faditex’s competitiveness and market differentiation.Item type:Ítem, Experimentación de técnicas de intervención textil innovadoras en denim guiadas por tendencias emergentes para el sector textil en Pelileo(UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO; FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIA, 2026-07-06) ;Punina Punina Brithney Nathalia ;Sánchez Sailema Erika CatalinaUNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO; FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIAThe textile sector in the Pelileo canton is characterized by the continued use of empirical finishing techniques and textile interventions that form part of both production and commercial operations. However, the limited incorporation of innovative approaches and restricted access to platforms featuring emerging trends reduce opportunities for aesthetic differentiation within an increasingly competitive market niche. The objective of this research was to experiment with innovative textile intervention techniques on denim, guided by emerging trends and local practices, with the aim of strengthening the textile sector in Pelileo. A qualitative approach with a descriptive-exploratory scope was employed, using fifteen semi-structured interviews with apparel designers, industrial laundry technicians, and textile workshop managers. Additionally, trend reports from specialized design and fashion platforms such as WGSN and Next Lab Lafayette were analyzed. The findings revealed a moderate aesthetic transformation in the sector, characterized by the predominance of minimalist finishes, frosted washes, and traditional textile processing techniques. Furthermore, an affinity was identified between the analyzed trends and the technical capabilities of local workshops, particularly in the application of distressed finishes and the enhancement of textures. It is concluded that the sector possesses technical and creative potential greater than that reflected in its current commercial offerings; however, limitations persist regarding sustainability, financial resources, access to specialized information, and the ability to anticipate trends.Item type:Ítem, Estrategias de diseño sustentables mediante el uso de residuos de denim para el sector del calzado artesanal en Tungurahua(UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO; FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA; CARRERA DE INGENIERÍA EN DISEÑO INDUSTRIAL, 2026-01-21) ;Medina Valencia Joselyn de los Angeles ;Jessica Viviana Martínez VergaraUNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO; FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA; CARRERA DE INGENIERÍA EN DISEÑO INDUSTRIALThis research focuses on the analysis and use of denim waste generated in textile workshops, with the aim of evaluating its technical and productive feasibility for the manufacture of handmade footwear in Tungurahua. Handcrafted footwear is a strategic productive sector that mainly uses leather and synthetic materials, so the incorporation of denim scraps represents a sustainable alternative that provides environmental, economic, and cultural value. The work is justified by the problem identified in textile workshops, where between 15 and 50 kilograms of denim scraps are generated each month, most of which are discarded, incinerated, or stored without sorting. This waste has a weight of between 11 and 14 ounces and technical characteristics suitable for reuse, so its use can reduce environmental impact and strengthen the circular economy in the region. The methodology applied included semi-structured interviews with textile workshops, shoemakers, and experts in the field, as well as technical observation sheets. The results showed that the material is available, artisans are willing to use it, and denim is compatible with artisanal processes such as patchwork, module creation, vivid textures, braiding, and mixing with other materials. Likewise, a growing market interest in sustainable products was identified. Finally, the proposal developed proposes sustainable design strategies to integrate denim waste into footwear components, reinforcing the artisanal identity and promoting production models aligned with sustainability and the circular economyItem type:Ítem, Diseño de una colección en denim con aplicación de intervenciones textiles y residuos preconsumo para la EMPRESA CARITEX(UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO; FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA; CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIA, 2026-01-20) ;Villalba Quinto Daniela Lizbeth ;Sánchez Sailema Erika CatalinaUNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO; FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA; CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIACaritex, located in the Pelileo district, is a local reference in the production of denim garments. However, its manufacturing process generates a considerable amount of pre consumer textile waste, including fabric scraps, cut offs, and production defects. Due to the absence of an adequate management system, these materials are discarded in the waste site of the El Rosario parish, generating environmental impacts and representing the loss of resources with high creative potential. Additionally, there is limited knowledge of innovative textile intervention techniques that could be applied to develop aesthetically appealing and commercially competitive products. This research project aims to design an experimental denim collection that integrates contemporary textile interventions and the reuse of pre consumer waste, based on the transformation methodology proposed by Kate Fletcher. To achieve this, a diagnostic study of Caritexs production system was carried out through interviews, direct observation, and focus groups with young consumers, identifying needs, preferences, and opportunities for sustainable innovation. Subsequently, an experimental phase was conducted through textile intervention samples, which made it possible to evaluate the technical and aesthetic feasibility of techniques such as patchwork, embroidery, appliques, and laser engraving applied to denim scraps. The results demonstrated strong potential for their use in future prototypes. Finally, the findings were integrated into a design proposal that outlines guidelines for a sustainable, creative, and context based denim collection. This proposal strengthens the competitiveness and innovation of Caritex within the denim market and contributes to the recognition of Pelileos local textile identity. Item type:Ítem, Diseño de una colección de indumentaria en denim a partir de la interpretación del bordado de la vestimenta festiva salasaka para la empresa ALRAM(UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIA, 2025-07-29) ;Villegas Mayorga Edgar Joel ;Medina Robalino Aylen KarinaUNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIAThis research presents the design of a denim clothing collection for the company ALRAM, based on the interpretation of embroidery from the festive garments of the Salasaka community, located in Tungurahua Province, Ecuador. The project responds to the need to revalue artisanal techniques that are being displaced by industrial textile processes. The proposal aims to establish a dialogue between tradition and modernity, integrating Salasaka hand embroidery into an urban fashion collection targeted at both male and female audiences. The project followed a design-based methodology, covering stages such as contextual and formal research, technical analysis of traditional and contemporary embroidery, and direct fieldwork observation. Artisanal practices were documented, including processes, materials, and techniques employed by local artisans. This analysis allowed for evaluating the adaptability of embroidery to denim fabrics, considering aspects such as texture, durability, symbolic expression, and visual harmony between the material and the artisanal technique. The outcome is a six-outfit collection featuring upper and lower garments, created using various denim compositions and weights. The collection demonstrates the feasibility of incorporating Salasaka embroidery into industrially produced urban garments while maintaining its cultural and symbolic integrity. In doing so, it reinforces the connection between contemporary fashion design and Andean textile heritage, offering a renewed framework for the valorization of traditional craft techniques.
