This thesis addresses the Architectural Design of the Ethnobotanical Interpretation Center at Parque Omaere, located in the city of Puyo, Pastaza province. The research emerges in response to the progressive erosion of Amazonian biocultural knowledge, a condition stemming from the absence of specialized infrastructure for the communication and dissemination of this heritage, the growing disconnection between the urban fabric and its natural surroundings, and the loss of vernacular architectural identity as an expression of Amazonian dwelling. The study adopts a qualitative approach with a descriptive scope, grounded in a methodology that integrates bioclimatic sity anylis, surbey and interviews with key stakeholders, typological analysis of the vernacular architecture of the Kiwcha, Shuar and Waorani nationalities, and the examination of architectural references at both projectual and functional levels. The triangulation of these sources constituted the central methodological contribution, enabling the convergence of findings into design criteria that ultimately shaped the project’s strategies. The proposal originates from a reinterpretation of Amazonian vernacular constructive principles, without formally reproduction them. Building upon the reinterpretation design strategies are incorporated to structure a pedagogical sequence from introductory to experimental articulated by a central circular hearth (fogón) as the symbolic and social nucleus of the project, reinterpreting the essence of Amazonian dwelling. The Amazonian chakra is integrated as natural cooling system through vegetative strata, while the use of bamboo ensures passive hygrothermal comfort. The project thus operates as a mediating device between the city and the forest, preserving and transmitting Amazonian ethnobotanical memory through a contextually meaningful architecture

This thesis develops the preliminary design of a community cultural center in the parish of Pilahuín, Ambato canton, based on a contemporary reinterpretation of vernacular construction principles. The study arises from the need for more suitable spaces for cultural, community, and educational activities, considering that the parish still maintains practices related to dance, gastronomy, reading, local memory, and the transmission of knowledge, although many of these activities still take place in insufficient or poorly conditioned spaces. The research followed a qualitative, design-oriented approach, combining direct observation, photographic documentation, precedent analysis, comparative lot assessment, and semi-structured interviews with actors linked to parish management, cultural promotion, territorial planning, and architecture. This process made it possible to identify the community’s spatial needs and the physical, territorial, and cultural criteria that should guide the proposal. The study also examined Pilahuín’s vernacular architecture, identifying principles such as stone bases, lighter upper systems, protective roofs, and intermediate spaces, later reinterpreted in the project without literally reproducing the traditional dwelling. As a result, the proposal includes reception, a multipurpose hall, an interior exhibition space, a dance workshop, a traditional cooking workshop, a reading and memory area, classrooms, administrative spaces, and active outdoor areas such as a courtyard, stepped seating, terraced gardens, and an accessible terrace, seeking a coherent relationship with the territory and the community life of Pilahuín.

This research develops the application of vernacular architecture in the design of a preliminary housing complex for older adults in the parish of Pilahuín, Tungurahua. The study addresses the problem of population aging, youth migration and the lack of permanent, accessible and safe residential models for this age group. It also recognizes the progressive loss of local vernacular architecture and the need to recover its constructive, spatial and climatic principles as a response to the rural Andean context. The main objective was to design a housing proposal that integrates universal accessibility, geronto-architecture, Senior Cohousing and vernacular architecture criteria, in order to strengthen autonomy, safety, thermal comfort and the sense of belonging of older adults. The methodology followed a qualitative approach, with a documentary-bibliographic and field-based modality, through theoretical and regulatory review, interviews, site observation, photographic records and analysis of the vernacular characteristics of Pilahuín. As a result, design guidelines were established based on short routes, transition spaces, community areas, courtyards, portals, sloped roofs, eaves, raised foundations and the reinterpretation of local materials. The proposal is organized through compact housing modules, a communal house and an administrative and comprehensive care area, articulating private, collective and support spaces. It is concluded that the preliminary project responds to a real social and architectural need by proposing a dignified, accessible and community-oriented housing model that is coherent with Andean cultural memory.

This research, entitled “Constructive analysis of a traditional house built using vernacular techniques in the canton of Cevallos,” arises in response to the need to rescue and value the traditional architectural knowledge that persists in the Ecuadorian Andean territory. This study, part of the Architecture, Heritage, and Technology program at the Technical University of Ambato, contributes to the recognition of traditional housing as an expression of the cultural, social, and architectural heritage of the province of Tungurahua. The work is significant for its contribution to the understanding of vernacular building systems and their role in the cultural landscape of Cevallos. It recognizes that traditional architecture is not only a material resource but also a symbol of identity and sustainability, as it uses local materials and inherited techniques that are adapted to the environmental and social conditions of the place. Methodologically, the study was conducted using a qualitative approach, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, descriptive-analytical design, based on Hernández Sampieri's methodology. It was structured in three phases: one of theorization, through bibliographic analysis of traditional housing and vernacular techniques; another of case analysis, through direct observation, architectural survey, and technical data sheets applied to a representative dwelling in the canton; and a final phase of applied synthesis, where a technical construction guide was developed as the final product. The results show the coherence between construction systems and the natural environment, as well as the validity of empirical knowledge in strengthening territorial identity. The technical guide constitutes an academic and professional contribution that seeks to preserve and disseminate vernacular construction principles for future architectural interventions with cultural relevance and environmental sustainability.

This graduation project focuses on the architectural design of a gastronomic center in the cantonal capital of Píllaro, Tungurahua province, in response to the lack of specialized facilities that integrate agri-food production, culture, and tourism. The proposal emerges from a context marked by the underutilization of local gastronomic potential, the disconnection of cultural practices, and the exclusion of social groups from public spaces. The research is framed within the paradigm of critical regionalism, employing a qualitative approach and a descriptive scope. The methodology is structured in three phases: analysis of the Provincial Family Park as a reference case, interviews with experts in vernacular architecture and gastronomy, and development of the architectural parti. The findings revealed functional limitations in existing infrastructures and established design criteria based on territorial identity, sustainability, and spatial adaptability. The proposal reinterprets the vernacular patio house typology from a contemporary perspective, incorporating local materials, passive bioclimatic strategies, and inclusive design. The architectural program articulates consumption, training, and commercialization areas around a central patio as a social interaction core. This intervention seeks to position Píllaro as a gastronomic tourism destination, promote solidarity-based economies, and preserve culinary traditions through contextually sensitive architecture.

The Baños de Agua Santa canton in the province of Tungurahua is one of the most well-known and visited tourist spots in the country, it is logically recognized for its tourist attractions, so this study seeks to make the Baños de Agua Santa canton recognized in Ecuador not only for adventure sports, its landscapes and different attractions, but also to introduce into the minds of Ecuadorians the different vernacular materials that the Baños canton has, which is intended to be achieved through a redesign of the different tourism agencies revitalizing their spaces in order to present them as a new concept of perception before citizens, creating a new "cultural identity" for the Baños canton, through the creation of really attractive spaces that generate new experiences among people that they visit the city of Baños. Considering that it must be taken into account that the human being feels the need and above all feels a great attraction for places or buildings that present a familiar environment or spaces, being these perceived as already known spaces, which need appropriate changes that generate different utilities All this will be achieved based on the use of vernacular materials in a great redesign of the traditional tourist agencies and their interior spaces in the Baños de Agua Santa canton of the province of Tungurahua. To achieve this objective of this Research project, the technical design, planning and supervision of the application of a tourist agency manual with vernacular materials from the Baños de Agua Santa canton will be necessary.
