Technical footwear design urgently needs innovations that achieve a balance between durability and ergonomics, reducing user fatigue without compromising structural safety. This research addresses this issue by developing and validating a biomechanically optimized sole for women's technical work shoes, focusing on user comfort. The design utilizes additive manufacturing through fused deposition modeling (FDM) and flexible thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) filament. Methodologically, the project falls within the research area of industrial design and product development, employing a mixed documentary and experimental approach. Parametric modeling was performed based on the CITCA women's anthropometric last, size 37, followed by functional fit validation in the workshop. Subsequently, standardized laboratory tests for abrasion resistance and cyclic bending fatigue will be applied to evaluate the mechanical behavior of the printed component, comparing the results with the nominal properties of the raw material. The work stands out for its novel and ergonomic design, as well as for its structural optimization through the use of internal configurations. Furthermore, it is innovative because it critically determines the effect of the spatial orientation of the layers on the mechanical anisotropy of the elastomer. Although the raw material exhibited greater flexibility, the study concludes that the lamination strategy determines the final fatigue resistance. When the spatial direction is modified to a lateral position on the print bed, the extrusion lines are oriented longitudinally. This eliminates delamination stresses between layers and ensures compliance with established regulations.

This research focuses on the analysis and use of denim waste generated in textile workshops, with the aim of evaluating its technical and productive feasibility for the manufacture of handmade footwear in Tungurahua. Handcrafted footwear is a strategic productive sector that mainly uses leather and synthetic materials, so the incorporation of denim scraps represents a sustainable alternative that provides environmental, economic, and cultural value. The work is justified by the problem identified in textile workshops, where between 15 and 50 kilograms of denim scraps are generated each month, most of which are discarded, incinerated, or stored without sorting. This waste has a weight of between 11 and 14 ounces and technical characteristics suitable for reuse, so its use can reduce environmental impact and strengthen the circular economy in the region. The methodology applied included semi-structured interviews with textile workshops, shoemakers, and experts in the field, as well as technical observation sheets. The results showed that the material is available, artisans are willing to use it, and denim is compatible with artisanal processes such as patchwork, module creation, vivid textures, braiding, and mixing with other materials. Likewise, a growing market interest in sustainable products was identified. Finally, the proposal developed proposes sustainable design strategies to integrate denim waste into footwear components, reinforcing the artisanal identity and promoting production models aligned with sustainability and the circular economy

Racing footwear design for racers between the ages of 18 and 30 requires the integration of functional materials that balance safety, performance, and ergonomics. Drivers demand fire-resistant footwear (such as Nomex or treated leather) with thermoregulatory and breathable properties to prevent heat fatigue during prolonged competitions. Materials such as TPU offer flexibility and abrasion resistance, while laminated neoprene provides waterproofing and a dynamic fit, adapting to rapid movements in confined cockpits. Footwear ergonomics are optimized through high-cut designs for ankle support, slipresistant soles, and insoles with selective cushioning that improve pedal sensitivity. Custom fit systems (integrated laces or closures) ensure precise maneuvering, while engineered mesh in strategic areas promote ventilation without compromising protection. Technological innovation includes printing processes on materials and new branding strategies to generate a positive and desirable image in the consumer's mind. Materials with different integrated self-healing characteristics extend the lifespan of footwear. Current trends in athletic footwear design for young runners focus on the incorporation of innovative materials that optimize performance, comfort, and sustainability. Particularly noteworthy are midsoles (prefabricated soles), combined with EVA and a rubber outsole. Additionally, knitted fabrics are used in the upper, which offer breathability and reduce the overall weight of the footwear—aspects especially valued by young runners seeking speed and coolness during training or competition.
