The main objective was to determine whether the availability of liquid resources influences the quality of the loan portfolio and the financial stability of these institutions. The research also compares the performance of each cooperative and verifies the existence of a statistical correlation between both variables. The study followed a quantitative, descriptive, and correlational approach with a non-experimental longitudinal design. Official data from the Superintendence of Popular and Solidary Economy were used. Liquidity was measured through the current ratio, acid test, immediate liquidity, treasury index, and working capital. Credit risk was evaluated using the delinquency rate, provision coverage, and non-performing portfolio. The relationship between indicators was analyzed using Pearson’s correlation coefficient. The results reveal differences among entities. Ambato, Chibuleo, and, in some years, Kullki Wasi show adequate liquidity levels and the capacity to cover short-term obligations. In contrast, SAC and Mushuc Runa exhibit insufficient liquid resources and negative working capital, reflecting operational vulnerability. Regarding credit risk, most cooperatives maintain moderate delinquency levels, although Mushuc Runa and Kullki Wasi present greater variability in their indicators. In conclusion, the study confirms that higher liquidity levels are associated with lower delinquency and reduced nonperforming loans. Therefore, prudent cash management and adequate provisioning policies contribute to institutional stability and long-term sustainability.
