Resumen : For what a person is considered within the group of adults, according to the United Nations, said person must be 60 years old onwards and under this slogan, they are also part of one of the vulnerable groups of Ecuador. This population does not count on many studies about the self-concept that they present in their different dimensions or on the style of humor that they use in their majority; For this reason, research is important to obtain information about how the established variables are manifested in a group of institutionalized older adults in our environment and the objective was to analyze the relationship between self-concept and mood styles in the elderly. The type of research is correlational, following a line of human health and quantitative. With the participation of a total of 47 older adults, external and internal users of the Integral Center for Older Adults, the Scale Self-concept Form Five Af-5 was applied, which measures self-concept in five dimensions and the Humor Styles Questionnaire that provides information on the 4 styles of humor. The results through the program Statistical Package for The Social Sciences (SPSS) indicated that there is a strong correlation between the dimensions of self-concept and the styles of humor in this group of participants; In addition, the prevailing styles of humor that were manifested are the increaser and the affiliative, in terms of the dimension of the highest self-concept, the labor followed by the physical one was presented. Women had a higher level of job and physical self-concept, while men indicated use mostly negative moods.
Descripción : Para que una persona sea considerada dentro del grupo de adultos mayores, según la Organización de Naciones Unidas, dicha persona debe tener de 60 años en adelante y bajo esta consigna, también son parte de uno de los grupos vulnerables del Ecuador. Esta población no cuenta con muchos estudios acerca del autoconcepto que presentan en sus diferentes dimensiones o sobre el estilo del humor que utilizan en su mayoría; por tal motivo la investigación es importante para obtener información acerca de cómo las variables establecidas se manifiestan en un grupo de adultos mayores institucionalizados en nuestro medio y se estableció como objetivo analizar la relación entre el autoconcepto y los estilos del humor en el adulto mayor. El tipo de investigación es correlacional, siguiendo una línea de salud humana y de carácter cuantitativo. Con la participación de un total de 47 adultos mayores usuarios externos e internos de Centro Integral del Adulto Mayor, se aplicó la Escala Autoconcepto Forma Cinco Af-5, que mide el autoconcepto en cinco dimensiones y el Cuestionario de Estilos de Humor que proporciona información sobre los 4 estilos de humor. Los resultados mediante el programa Statistical Package For The Social Sciences (SPSS) señalaron que si hay una fuerte correlación entre las dimensiones del autoconcepto y los estilos del humor en este grupo de participantes; además los estilos de humor predominantes que se manifestaron son el incrementador y el afiliativo. En cuanto a la dimensión del autoconcepto más elevado se presentó el laboral seguido del físico. Las mujeres tuvieron un mayor nivel de autoconcepto laboral y físico, mientras que los hombres indicaron utilizar humores negativos en su mayoría.
