Description: At present, an analysis of the efficiency of private banks in Ecuador is required. Financial intermediation is fundamental for the management of deposits, credits and withdrawals, banks have become essential for people, companies and organizations that entrust their resources and investments, therefore, they need to know the efficiency of the banks that shows in Latin America different results, while there are those with strong values, others also show deficiencies. For this study, the methodology of data envelopment analysis (DEA) was used, which is a non-linear programming technique that allows the evaluation of the performance of the administration of the productive units, identifies the efficient frontier in the presence of multiple inputs and outputs, The method not only defines the efficiency percentage but also provides projections or establishes where improvements are required. The Frontier Analyst Professional program was used, which allows the calculation of the variables statistically. Each unit has an efficient calculated on a scale that varies from 0 to 100. The value 100 indicates that the unit is efficient, values less defines it as inefficient, the inputs that were chosen are savings deposits, demand deposits and assets fixed, on the other hand, the outputs chosen are the net credits of provisions (loan portfolio provisions), income from services and interest and discounts earned. The results showed 100% efficiency in Banco de Guayaquil and Banco del Pacífico, Banco del Pichincha is only 100% efficient in 2016, the years 2015, 2017 and 2018 the analysis shows values lower than 100%, Produbanco shows lower efficiency of the four years analyzed none obtained 100% fluctuated between 80 to 94%. It is recommended to work on strengthening the variables selected inputs and outputs according to the percentages shown in the results.
