Abstract: This research project had as objective to know the incidence of lumbociatalgia in patients who wear hip prostheses. Among the postoperative complications in a hip arthroplasty is the ossification heterotópica, postoperative pain, discrepancy of length of lower limbs and peripheral nerve injury usually the sciatic nerve, causing decrease in muscle strength and pain in the lumbar region which radiates to the lower limb, symptoms called lumbociatalgia This research work maintains a qualitative approach of quasi-experimental type, the study was conducted in a group of patients of both sexes, ranging in ages between 50 and 82 years as to be subjected to a hip arthroplasty in its recovery phase developed lumbociatalgia, had a duration of a month in which evaluated the functionality of the hip prostheses using the functional scale of Harris which is applied in the initial stage of rehabilitation and at the end of these to determine the degree of functionality reached, worked with a tab of observation for each patient in the included items corresponding to: degree of pain, level Muscle tone, degrees joints kept at level functional and non-functional, shortening of muscle groups, changes in the pattern of normal running, dissymmetric of lower limbs and the use of a cane or walker, crutches to walk, likewise conducted an initial assessment and a final assessment. Using the data obtained by the scale of Harris was determined that the functional status of the hip improvement in the group of patients giving scores of a 57% as excellent and 43% good, on the other hand the observation tab shows us in a first assessment of the injury to the sciatic nerve covers a 63% as positive and for the final assessment increases to 83%, demonstrating that the symptomatology of pain and neuromusculoesquelética alteration is caused by injury to the nerve and not by a shortening of the musculature isquiotibial To check the hypothesis was used the statistics of frequencies and subsequently the formula to determine the incidence of lumbociatalgia in patients who have hip arthroplasty, checking that the 83.33 per cent of the population with hip prostheses develops lumbociatalgia.
