    The present research refers to social skills and self-esteem, and its objective was to determine how social skills influence the self-esteem of ninth and tenth grade students of General Basic Education of the “Joaquín Lalama” Educational Unit. Chapter I developed the theoretical framework on: social skills and self-esteem, noting their importance, types and strategies to improve them, since they are important for personal development, emotional and academic well-being. For the development of this research a mixed approach was used combining qualitative and quantitative techniques. The level was exploratory, descriptive and correlational with the purpose of analyzing the relationship between social skills and self-esteem in the sample of 97 students. It had a cross-sectional design to collect data at a specific time. The modality was bibliographic-documentary and field based on a previous literature review and integrated with the collection of information by means of standardized instruments. Two scales were used for data collection: Goldstein's Social Skills Scale and Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale. The Chi-square statistic was used to analyze the data because it is the appropriate method for analyzing data from two categorical variables. The calculated Chi-square was 140.170 and the tabular Chi-square 124.342, showing a significant correlation between the independent variable and the dependent variable, because the calculated Chi-square is greater than the tabulated Chi-square. It was concluded that social skills DO influence students' self-esteem, this finding highlights the importance of implementing strategies to improve social skills.

    ¨Dinámica familiar y Comportamiento social en estudiantes de educación básica Superior de la Unidad Educativa González Suárez de la Ciudad de Ambato”

    El presente trabajo de investigación se realizó en la Unidad Educativa González Suárez, ubicada en la provincia de Tungurahua en la ciudad de Ambato, con el fin de identificar la dinámica familiar y el comportamiento social de los estudiantes. En el capítulo I, se desarrolló el marco teórico resaltando las definiciones, la tipología que existe, la información encontrada de las variables involucradas mediante una exhaustiva revisión bibliográfica, consecuentemente en el capítulo II se propuso una metodología mixta, descriptiva, exploratoria, explicativa y correlacional, además se identificó los instrumentos de evaluación para ambas variables que fueron el Cuestionario del Funcionamiento Familiar FF-SIL y la Escala de Habilidades Sociales de Elena Gismero EHS. Como resultado en el capítulo III tanto la dinámica familiar como el comportamiento social, fueron evaluadas con éxito, lo que proporcionó una estimación detallada de la relación entre la funcionalidad familiar y el comportamiento social, los datos obtenidos fueron validados a través de un análisis meticuloso, mediante el Chi cuadrado donde se demostró una correlación significativa entre dinámica familiar y comportamiento social de los estudiantes
