    Minuchin describes the family as an entity that is not static and that the same is in continuous motion and that the assessment must centrarce on the basis of the family interaction, based on the transactional patterns as in the constructions of the reality with the experiences of family members, so it is necessary to know the interracion systemic between the family context (Desatnik, 2004). The family is the basic unit of the society for this reason in this research aims to determine the relationship between the family functionality with suicidal ideation in university students. For this research was attended by the participation of 182 students from first to tenth semester of the Technical University of Ambato, Faculty of Health Sciences, career of clinical psychology, of the province of Tungurahua. The study is focused on evaluating family functionality and identifying the intensity of suicidal ideation in university students, proceeding to obtain information with the application of reactants such as the questionnaire of family functioning FF-SIL and Beck SIS's suicidal ideation scale. First we have the questionnaire of family functioning FF-SIL showing us as it is the family system and the factors that intervene or affect in it like: the Harmony, the communication, the cohesion, evidencing through the expression of affection and the sufficient Ability to adapt to the constant change in the family system. Second the suicidal risk was assessed with the scale of suicidal ideation of Beck (SIS) which has 4 dimensions and three levels of intensity in which identifies the ideas and attempts of life or death.
