This study addresses the issue of bonding in early attachment, which consists of skinto-skin contact between mother and child immediately after birth, if both are stable for as long as they wish or at least until the newborn takes its first breastfeeding from its mother. Objective: To determine the relationship between emotional bonding and the sociodemographic characteristics of mothers of newborns attended in a public hospital in Ecuador. Methodology. Quantitative approach, correlational scope and observational design. The population consisted of mothers and their newborns who attended check-ups at the obstetric center of a public hospital in Ecuador during the month of September 2022, to whom the Spanish version of the scale "Vínculo entre padres e hijos neonatos" was applied. Results: the average age of the participants was between 26 and 30 years old, corresponding to 33.33% of the sample; in relation to marital status, a higher prevalence of patients in free union was observed with 45.45%; 33.33% had a secondary school degree. In general, a low level of emotional bonding was identified. In addition, a p-value < 0.05 was found between age and marital status with the level of bonding. Conclusion, Older married women practice more intense bonding. There are many benefits with the practice of early attachment, such as: calming the crying of the newborn, stabilizing the cardiorespiratory apparatus, developing tactile sensations, among others.
