Cl. Mg.
Introduction: Emotional intelligence (EI) acquires a great relevance in adolescence by contributing to the development of psychosocial skills, which favor adequate decision-making (DM); and this in turn, greater individual and collective functioning. Objective: To establish the relationship between emotional intelligence and decision-making patterns in adolescents. Method: This research is quantitative, descriptive, correlational and transversal in scope. The study population consisted of 93 students from an educational institution in Ambato-Ecuador. The abbreviated BarOn-EQI emotional quotient inventory was applied as a data collection technique to measure emotional intelligence, and the Melbourne decision-making questionnaire was used to determine the levels and dimensions of decision-making patterns. Results: One of the main findings was a positive correlation between emotional intelligence and decision-making; in the same way, the majority of the population presented average and adequate levels of emotional intelligence and decision-making, respectively. Conclusions: Adolescents with better developed emotional 1 2 intelligence can make more appropriate decisions, which can be attributed to the importance of the emotional component in people's daily choices.
