This research analyzed the relationship between tourism planning and the lentic ecosystem of the Yambo Lagoon, located in the Salcedo canton. Through a mixed approach, the analysis of the natural and tourist environment of the area was approached, identifying as the main problem the lack of adequate planning by the public sector, which was evidenced by the poor water quality in the tourist area. Interviews were conducted with representatives of the public sector and local tourism entrepreneurs, complemented by direct observations that made it possible to evaluate the level of water transparency and detect sensitive flora and fauna species. The results reveal the lack of formal tourism planning and the absence of clear guidelines to regulate tourist behavior. This lack of planning has resulted in water contamination, loss of aquatic vegetation, and fauna damage. In response, this research proposes the creation of a manual of good tourism practices, aimed at promoting responsible behavior among tourists, considering the main tourism activities and promoting ecological and sustainable awareness. It is concluded that it is necessary to establish legal tourism planning, based on principles of environmental sustainability, to ensure the preservation of Yambo Lagoon as a tourist destination that guarantees its conservation in the long term.
