The present study tries to analyze the level of incidence that has the public expense in the economic growth of Ecuador from the culmination of the military dictatorship. It also seeks to make a descriptive analysis of the development that has acquired the rate of variation of GDP and real public expenditure in order to identify the characteristics of the different economic and political processes and relate them to economic performance, this in relation to spending The analysis to be carried out is based on the structuring of a time series model that takes into account the circumstances of a possible presence of non-stationarity, cointegration of data, bias or inefficiency of the parameters of regression. For this purpose, unit root and cointegration tests are performed to later analyze the time series model with the greatest adjustment that can accurately describe the behavior of economic growth as a function of public expenditure incurred by the governments in turn during the democratic era of Ecuador. The results obtained from the structuring of the VAR and VECM models showed that economic growth and public expenditure are related in a single direction however, the growth of the economy is explained by public spending and not the other way around.
