(Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la educación -Carrera de Educación Básica, 2025-01-17) Otavalo Catota Joselyn Estefanía; Hernández Domínguez Pablo Enrique; Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la educación -Carrera de Educación Básica
The objective of this research is to investigate reading comprehension and academic performance in the area of Language and Literature in sixth grade students of the "Bautista" Educational Unit, in the city of Ambato. It was worked with a qualitative-quantitative (mixed) approach. The research was supported by the bibliographic, documentary and field modalities. The level of research is descriptive. The techniques used were the ACL 6 Reading Comprehension Test and the survey, with their respective instruments validated by the judgment of experts, which were applied to 16 students and a teacher of the subject. The line of research is social and educational behavior. The results obtained reveal that most of the students are at very low levels of reading comprehension. In the questions corresponding to the levels: literal, critical and inferential, they present a high percentage of errors. Regarding academic performance, there was an equal percentage of students who mastered and achieved the learning, which may be due to factors such as good performance in assessments, family environment, among others. In conclusion, students do not reach an expected level of comprehension and present significant deficiencies in the skills related to identifying, inferring, analyzing and reflecting on the information in the text. There are also no students with low academic performance, however, in terms of reading, it is necessary to carry out interventions that help overcome these difficulties.
