Eficacia antimicrobiana in vitro del extracto de mastuerzo (Tropaeolum majus) y tomillo (Thymus vulgaris) sobre cepa certificada de Staphylococcus aureus
(2017) Mira Naranjo, Juan Carlos; Montero Recalde, Mayra Andrea
The objective of this research was to evaluate in vitro the antimicrobial efficacy of the extract of nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus) and thyme (Thymus vulgaris) on Staphylococcus aureus. Concentrations were evaluated at 1%, 5%, 10%, 30%, 50%, 70% and 90% dilution in 96.8% ethanol. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration was determined by the microdilution method in broth, the bacterial inoculum was standardized at 0.5 of the MacFarland scale in spectrophotometer, with the result that the tube at 1% of thyme oil did not show turbidity, which when seeded on Mueller- Hinton agar determined the Minimum Bactericidal Concentration in which no growth of colonies was observed; On the other hand the extract of nasturtium evidenced turbidity in all its dilutions reason why it does not count with antimicrobial activity. The application of the analysis of variance resulted in that the treatments at 5% and 10% were not significantly different (p = <0.05) with values of 15. 35 mm and 15.9 mm, compared to 1% that was 12.2 mm Halos of inhibition. In the case of the nasturtium extract, no halos were formed on the strain Staphylococcus aureus.
