Item Respuesta hiperglucémica inducida por corticoides(Universidad Técnica de Ambato/ Facultad de Ciencias de Salud /Carrera de Laboratorio Clínico, 2023-03-01) Lucio Guajan, Patricia Dayana; Galárraga Pérez, Edison Arturo Dr. Mg.Corticosteroids are widely prescribed drugs in healthcare practice due to their therapeutic efficacy; however, hyperglycemia has several adverse effects, one of the most common. The objective of the study was to analyze the metabolism of corticosteroids in the human body and identify how they raise basal glucose levels and induce hyperglycemia. The methodology used was the systematic review without meta-analysis carried out from original articles, review articles, case studies, clinical trials, editorial records published in Spanish and English, published between 2017-2002 from: Medline, Scielo, VHL, ELSEVIER. . The results obtained in the initial search phase were 302 sources of information, after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 254 sources were discarded mainly by year, language of publication and quality of the same, 42 sources were subsequently discarded because their content was irrelevant, leaving a total of 15 articles with which the investigation was developed. The most used corticosteroids were prednisolone, prednisone and dexamethasone, which have an intermediate and long-term action. It is concluded that corticosteroids do induce hyperglycemic responses.
