(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2019) Robalino Sánchez, Edwin Fernando; López Arboleda, Alex Gustavo
The present investigation shows the analysis and results of the study of the variation of the temperature and acoustic conditioning of samples of adobe. The mud for the manufacture of the artisan adobes was extracted immersed areas in the province of Tungurahua, the parish of Pilahuin located southwest of Ambato, and the parish Pilisurco located northwest of the canton Ambato. As regards the manufacturing process of the blocks, it was established to perform it based on the parameters described in the Peruvian standard E.080 - Design and Construction with Reinforced Earth. Previously, the study of physical parameters was carried out, in order to maintain a good context of its composition, in addition to establishing an evaluation of soil quality to abide by the aforementioned standard. It was established to carry out the study for 4 combinations, the clay plus a percentage of plastic PET crushed depending on the volume, where it was necessary to place in order of: 0%, 5%, 10% and 15%. The analysis performed for temperature and sound tests is based on the procedures described in the standards: NCh. 851 of 1983, NCh. 849 of 1987 Thermal Insulation, and NCh. 2865 of 2004 Acoustics, where the level of acoustic insulation and variation of temperature was established, based on the construction of a hermetic chamber with metal structure, gypsum boards and wool with fiberglass, in which 16 samples of adobe were placed in Panel form for each specified combination. The results referring to the level of acoustic insulation remained optimal with the block plus 15% PET, and the highest level of thermal insulation was produced with 5% PET material. Finally, a comparison was made of the compressive strength of the adobe blocks made, and the minimum resistance accepted by the Peruvian standard E.080 - Design and Construction with Reinforced Earth. Six samples were made for each combination, where it is established that with 0% and 5% of PET material, it reaches a resistance superior to 10,2 kg/cm2, while when increasing to 10% and 15% of PET, the resistance decreases.

The needs in construction are numerous in terms of concrete, hence the need to propose new materials to solve these needs. The present work consists of finding a percentage of polyester resin in the polymeric concrete that reaches a high resistance to compression. To elaborate this material, there were used aggregates from "Las Viñas" mine of the Alvarado construction company, located in Ambato. This stone material complied with the NTE INEN granulometry limits and the apparent and real densities were verified in a materials testing laboratory. With the dosage by the the Optimum Density Method for a traditional concrete, the cement and water part was replaced by polyester resin and mek peroxide (C8H18O6). In this way we get the dosage for the polymer concrete with different percentages of polyester resin. During the elaboration, an increment of workability of concrete was observed when increasing the percentage of polyester resin in the mixture. Finally, the specimens with different percentages of polyester resin were subjected to a compression test at 21 and 28 days. The results obtained allowed to deduce that with 45% of polyester resin not even reached the lower limit of resistance to compression expected at 21 and 28 days, while 50% doubles the value of resistance and exceeds the design resistance. The best results are obtained with 55%, because once again it doubles the value obtained with 45% and a high resistance to compression is reached. These favorable results will allow to open a field to obtain a material of high resistance to compression with polyester resin, whose physical and mechanical properties are much higher than traditional concrete.

The objective of this work was the comparative study of the seismic behavior of buildings with two bracing systems. In Ecuador there are different zones with seismic danger, for this reason, recently improvements have been implemented in the design and construction of steel structure buildings, some of these improvements are the implementation of bracing systems. Although this practice is very useful to improve the seismic behavior of buildings, locally its performance is still being studied. In the analysis proposed in this work, concentric bracing (in X and V) and eccentric bracing (in X and V) were considered for a specific zone. In order to analyze the seismic behavior of the building, the soilstructure conditions were applied with the characteristics of the Chimbo canton that were compiled from a soil study, additionally, a basic building was configured, in which the 4 different types of bracings were applied in order to identify if there is a system that presents a better performance. A Pushover analysis was applied to all configurations to establish which system provides the best results. Finally, it was identified that the inverted V bracings provide the building with greater flexibility without the need to compromise its integrity.

(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2021-03) Cervantes Cifuentes, Ronald Fernando; López Arboleda, Alex Gustavo
Firstly, in order to elaborate this technical project, it was necessary the preparation of a digital model of the road. It was carried out with the help of a georeferenced survey of the road section studied, in which the information was registered with a GPS satellite receiver, taking into account every 20 meters marking of abscissas. Moreover, the vehicular traffic on the road was recorded for one week, which resulted in a class III collector road with a roadway width that supports the current traffic. Additionally, a visual study of the road was performed by applying the PCI method, taking into account 16 sampling units to be analyzed. It gave a PCI value of 66.50 showing that the road is in good condition. Furthermore, an analysis of the static deflections of the wearing course was obtained with the help of the Benkelman beam, which generated type I deflections, indicating that the road has a good structural behavior. Finally, four trial pits were made to get the CBR value, which got a 8 percent value, giving an average to a good subgrade performance. For these reasons, routine maintenance is proposed in which includes different activities to keep wearing course in excellent conditions.

The Patate-Baños road is one of the very important arteries for the province of Tungurahua and the center of the country, since it serves as an outlet for agricultural and livestock products from the Patate canton, where 84 percent of its population lives in rural areas and are dedicated to the economic sector; in addition to functioning as an entry and exit of tourists to the Canton of Baños, where 90 percent of its economy depends on tourism; this is why the conservation of the tread layer is necessary so that there are no mobility complications. Through information gathering, field tests, laboratory tests, and bibliographic research, the characteristics of the road and the soil where it sits were achieved, based on which road maintenance was proposed. In the PCI tests, positive results were obtained, a value of 80.23 that means particularly good condition of the pavement, CBR with results of: excellent and good for subgrade, and Benkelman Beam with deflections below the admitted limits; gave values that indicated good behavior of the pavement and the subgrade. With these results, a road maintenance plan was proposed for the project road, both routine and periodic so that the road is preserved in the best possible condition and maintains the connection between both cantons.

(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2022-09) Ortiz Mayorga, Jeremy Sebastián; López Arboleda, Alex Gustavo
In the present, road development is very important worldwide, which is why several civil engineering associations see conservation and maintenance as a concern, this is due to low economic resources. In this project, a georeferenced survey, a study of vehicle mobility, a visual inspection in the place based on the PCI method and laboratory tests were carried out to determine the physical and mechanical properties of the soil where the asphalt structure was settled. When developing this process, it was determined that by means of vehicle mobility, the road is a C1 Collector type II road with a roadway in excellent condition since the average PCI is 93.76, in turn the pavement deflections were evaluated with the CONREVIAL method. Giving us type I deflections, this concludes that the structure is functional and adequate. To finish studies realized were those of soils, thus knowing the base where the pavement structure is based. When developing the granular study and Atterberg limits, a Loamy Sand (A-2-4) with a CBR of 10 percent was obtained, with these data we interpret that the subgrade has Fair-Good conditions. The purpose of the study is to carry out a routine and periodic maintenance plan satisfying the needs of the road, for this reason we have economic and functional solutions.

The quality of the road infrastructure of a town is a fundamental pillar for the integration of several sectors, the large agricultural production of Patate and the tourism generated by the Canton of Baños have been the factors that directly influence the need to have a road network in the best operating conditions, providing comfort and safety to all users. For the present project, a Georeferenced survey of the road was carried out with the help of a tape measure and a GPS, a total of 376 points were collected, data reflected in a digital model. A manual count was carried out in the area with the highest vehicular mobility for 12 hours from Monday to Sunday, obtaining a future traffic of 20670 veh/day, a value that classifies the road as a highway or multilane road AV1. The pavement condition index (PCI) was determined, which resulted in 71.20, a value that qualifies the pavement as Very Good. The deflections of the pavement were determined every 200 meters, finding that the road presents type I deflections with a behavior of the subgrade and the pavement of good quality. 3 soil samples were collected to perform granulometry tests, Atterberg limits, Modified Proctor and CBR, classifying the soil as a silty sand (SM) of RegularGood quality and exclusive use for subgrade. Through the results obtained in the different investigations, a Routine Maintenance was planned, which will be carried out at least once a year and its objective will be to preserve the Patate-Baños road in optimal conditions.
