The need for a place to live and the environmental crisis are current problems that must be controlled and mitigated in the construction sector, in the present research work a comparative structural and economic analysis of a roof projected with two structural materials was carried out. A widely used material, steel and a material that is gaining market in recent years for its great potential for reforestation and uses in construction such as bamboo. In the research, an analysis of the configuration and the optimal structural system for the roof was made, then a structural analysis was carried out using the static and linear dynamic methods complying with the regulatory controls of the Ecuadorian construction standard to guarantee a safe structure with a resistant earthquake behavior. Finally, the work was concluded with a comparison of the structural and economic response of the two roofs. This work seeks to provide a low-impact construction alternative with the environment and will serve for future engineers to mitigate the environmental problems we currently have.
