Descripción : This research seeks to analyze the relationship between economic growth and environmental degradation for the Ecuadorian economy under the hypothesis of the Environmental Kuznets Curve in the period of 1988-2017. Through an empirical review, it was decided to estimate CO2 emissions, with respect to energy consumption and GDP per capita. The methodology used is panel data with cointegration, based on three stages: stationarity, cointegration and causality. According to the results obtained, it concluded that the inverted U curve does not occur in the case of Ecuador instead it takes an inverse linear relationship where high levels of income are associated with low emissions levels. On the other hand, the incident factors in CO2 emissions are evaluated through the KAYA identity in the period 1990-2015, it concluded that Ecuador wanting to achieve energy efficiency must reduce in greater proportion the energy intensity and carbon intensity, in addition to this strengthen the measures that allow it to continue developing without putting at risk to the environment and by reducing to a significant level, in the long term the country can reach the exact stretch of the Kuznets curve.
