The footwear manufacturing sector, being a representative segment within the manufacturing industry of Ecuador, operates within a competitive and changing environment which influences the administrative and financial management of these companies, so they must carry out an effective financial administration that contributes to the efficient use of resources, guaranteeing the generation of favorable results and at the same time the development and growth of the sector. Under this context, the present research work has as main objective determine the influence of working capital management on the profitability of the companies of the footwear manufacturing sector of the country during the 2013-2017 period. For this, the required financial information was collected from 29 active companies of the CIIU C1520.01 “Manufacture of footwear, ankle boots, leggings and similar items for all use, of any material and by any process, including molding (shoe parting)”; from which the values of the working capital indicators were obtained: cash conversion cycle, average collection period, average inventory period, average payment period, net working capital, as well as profitability indicators: ROA, ROE and GOP. The methodology used consisted of a correlation analysis to measure the relationship between the variables, using as statistical tests the multiple linear regression analysis, the Pearson correlation coefficient and the R2 Determination coefficient. After processing the information, results were obtained showing that for 2013 there is a strong positive association between the variables of working capital and ROE with 95,63%, while it is observed that 90,03% of ROE is explained by the variations of the components of working capital and within that the most influential factor is the Cash Conversion Cycle. Similarly, in 2017, a relationship between the variables of the working capital and ROE of 75,74% is obtained, as well as a 60,42% of ROE which is explained by the variables of the Working Capital; therefore, the influence between working capital management and ROE is verified, while ROA and GOP were not susceptible to these variations. In this way, it is concluded that in general the importance of an adequate management of working capital is observed as a determining factor in the profitability of companies in the footwear manufacturing sector for this period, checking the relationship existing in 2013 and 2017 while that in reason of the dispersion of the data in the years 2014, 2015 and 2016 for reasons beyond the study, this relationship cannot be evidenced, however the statistically significant evidence indicates that ROE is related and is explained by the working capital management, providing information to this sector that therefore contributes to improving its competitiveness in the market.es_ES
