Resumen : The present study had as objective to identify the relationship between the burnout syndrome and the cognitive distortions prevalent in teachers, the study was made with a sample of 120 teachers of both sexes from two schools. The burnout syndrome is understood as the answer to the prolonged labor stress and its evaluation was done with the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) which measures the three theoretical dimensions of the burnout: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal accoplishment; on the other hand, the cognitive distortions are defined as the wrong reasoning or the distorted interpretation of the reality, this variable was evaluated through of the Inventory of Automatic Thoughts of Ruiz and Lujan (1991) this test identifies the type of predominant cognitive distortion in the evaluated person. The statistical program SPSS was used through the X2 test for the analysis of the data. Through the application of Pearson's Chi-square test and Fisher's exact test, the investigation found that there is a positive correlation between burnout syndrome and cognitive distortions [X^2(6) = 26,739, p<0.05, N=120]. In this way, the study concluded that both variables are correlational, in addition, about 50% of participants have high levels of burnout syndrome as well as a range between 1 to 5 prevalent cognitive distortions. The most frequent distortions were the Heaven´s reward fallacy, Catastrophizing, Filtering, Should fallacy and Always being right.
